Jodi Wiser
Our Applause for October goes out to Jodi Wiser, Office Administrator in the Psychological Consultation Center! As her nominators say:
"As the Office Administrator, Jodi skillfully manages the Psychological Consultation Center (PCC), an outpatient clinic that provides mental health services to UNL students and others in Lincoln and its surrounding communities. As the Assistant Director of the PCC, I have been utterly impressed with Jodi since the moment she joined our staff. Whether Jodi is dealing with administrative matters, clients, or assisting another staff member, she is always calm, cheerful, helpful, and knowledgeable. She always comes up with creative solutions to any problem, and more often than not, she comes up with creative and effective solutions to multiple problems at once, a necessity with such a large unit. One of the things I most admire about Jodi is her work ethic. She initiates projects rather than waiting for them to be delegated to her. If she sees an area that requires improvement in the PCC, she is instantly planning the best way to make things better. To say that Jodi goes above and beyond the call of duty would be putting it lightly! Jodi also seeks to increase her knowledge on a daily basis. Although she has been in her position for two years, she asks questions so that she can learn more about matters that will help her help those she works with. This has allowed her to anticipate the needs of the PCC staff on a daily basis, making our lives much easier and our productivity much greater. I honestly cannot imagine the PCC without Jodi. I applaud her work on a daily basis and hope that the UNL College of Arts and Sciences will join me in applauding her as well! I cannot think of anyone I’ve ever worked with who is more deserving of an Applause than Jodi Hiser!"
"Jodi always offers to help other people. She goes above and beyond by helping her student workers understand what is going on in the clinic as well training them to be professionals in their future jobs. She is always ready to lend a shoulder and an ear to anybody who needs someone to talk to and no matter the odds, she is in your corner rooting for you with all her heart."
"From the beginning, Jodi took on the task of making the PCC a place where clients, graduate student therapists, and student workers would feel welcomed, respected, and valued. Her success is visible in the warm and professional atmosphere she fosters in the clinic, the reduced time lapse from client's first telephone contact to their first therapy appointment, and the overall efficiency of clinic operations. For example, Jodi plans her student worker supervision carefully, helping each student define and realize their job goals. She manages the PCC budget and us always trying to reduce costs and increase revenues, an effort reflected in a positive year-end balance. Looking around the physical setting of the PCC, Jodi's touch is apparent everywhere: the coloring pages and crayons for our youngest clients; the newly designed bulletin boards; the sparkling and orderly therapy rooms; the accessible flow of workspaces; and, most importantly, the friendly conversations of student, staff, and faculty working together to help clients who seek psychological help at the PCC."
"Jodi is willing to jump in and get done what needs to be done. I never get the sense she is saying to herself 'this is not on my job description.' At the same time, she is very effective in engaging others to help so more can be accomplished. She is a true team player. Jodi is a role model of someone who is willing to share about themselves and build relationships with co-workers but never lets it interfere with productivity. In my opinion, Jodi is one of the most valuable employees at UNL!"
Why an Applause Award?
We are fortunate to employ many highly competent, loyal, innovative staff members. Our mission could not be achieved without their efforts.

Applause awards are given monthly. In addition to being recognized, Applause awardees receive: a cash award, a reception in their home department, and publication of their achievement across campus and on line.
